Team Bios

Jamie D. Shumake, LMHC

Jamie received his Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University, C.W. Post. He formerly served as the Clinical Supervisor at The Renfrew Center, Old Greenwich, CT, an out-patient treatment facility specializing in the treatment of women with eating disorders. Prior to joining The Renfrew Center, Jamie was a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist for The Haven at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Westchester. He has trained staff in DBT in New York and New Jersey and is a consultant to community entities of Nyack in the management of out-patient mental health issues. He completed the Advanced Intensive Training in DBT with Dr. Linehan and Dr. Manning in 2008 and is the Consultation Team Leader for DBT Associates of Nyack.

Matt Kraus, MPH, LMHC, LCAT

Matt received his Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling and Creative Art therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and his MPH from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Before entering into private practice full time, Matt was the Director of the Wellness Center at Purchase College SUNY where he focused on substance use counseling, promoting a wellness lifestyle, prevention and recovery support for college students. Prior to that, Matt worked as an Outpatient Counselor at Connecticut Counseling Center in Danbury, CT where he ran a Substance Abuse IOP Program for CT court mandated drug offenders and conducted intake evaluations for the State Court System. Matt has also been a Primary Therapist for the Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders in Old Greenwich, CT. Prior to the Renfrew Center, Matt was a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Specialist for New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Westchester campus flagship unit, The Haven, as well having spent 3 years on the hospital’s Pediatric Unit.

Andrew McIntosh, LMHC

Andrew received his Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University, C.W. Post. He completed his Intensive Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy with Dr. Charles Swenson and has also completed advanced training in DBT Skills Training at Four Winds Hospital. Formerly, Andrew was with the Mental Health Association of Rockland County in their dual-diagnosis outpatient substance abuse program. Andrew specializes in DBT for young adolescents and pre-adolescents, as well as substance use disorders for adolescents, young adults and adults.

Gillian Sinclair, LCSW, MA, Ch.t.

Gillian received her degree in Social Work from New York University and received her MA in Depth Psychology and Transformative Language Arts from Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. Additionally, Gillian is a certified hypnotherapist. Prior to joining DBT Associates of Nyack she was Clinical Director of Intensive Outpatient Programs at Second Arc Psychiatric Associates in White Plains, NY.

Lorriann Hartwick, E-RYT 500

Lorriann is an experienced educator with over 35 years of teaching at a Residential Treatment Center. Her focus is on high school-aged adolescents with emotional and educational needs. With her extensive teaching background, she is well-equipped to work effectively with adults and young adults of all capabilities.

Lorriann has completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Birchwood Center, followed by an additional 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training with an emphasis on the Divine Feminine at Living Mandala. She has also undergone a year-long study at Science and Souls on Trauma Training. As a result, she has created and developed Somatic Trauma Therapy, which she now teaches at DBT Nyack. She is also the creator of the “Today I am grateful for…” cards. Lorriann is a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance.

Dr. Kathleen Keefe-Cooperman, PsyD

Though not an employee of DBT Associates of Nyack, Dr. Kathy Keefe-Cooperman (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who shares our office space. She has joined our treatment team to offer her supervisory experience and insight. Dr. Keene-Cooperman is an Associate Professor at Long Island University, as well as a member of the prestigious Fulbright Specialist Program. She has a broad range of experience working with children, adolescents and adults around mental health issues that impact daily life. Dr. Keefe-Cooperman also specializes in psychological evaluations of preschoolers, and Autism identification and diagnosis for younger children. Dr. Keefe-Cooperman has two Master’s degrees and earned her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford. She has published in psychology, counseling and educational journals on her research into the areas of preschooler development and breaking bad news using a structured protocol she developed. Dr. Keefe-Cooperman presents at national and international conferences and is also the co-author of a book focusing on math anxiety and related cognitive principles for overcoming this difficulty.

Philip Farrugia, LMHC-LP

Philip is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor-LP. In addition to working at DBT Associates of Nyack, Philip has been a School Counselor in Rockland County for the past 16 years where he has had extensive experience working with adolescents. He completed his training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy with Dr. Lane Pederson, and has had additional training in Eclectic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy under the direction of Dr. Thomas Nardi. Philip holds three Graduate Degrees from Long Island University in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, and Mental Health Counseling.

Cami Presha, LMHC

Cami earned her Masters Degree & Advanced Certificate in School and Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University. Cami worked as a Therapist and Intake Coordinator at the Center for Safety & Change providing individual and group therapy for victims and survivors of sexual trauma and domestic violence. Cami also worked for a Middle & High School in Westchester through Student Assistance Services. There Cami ran school wide prevention education programming as well as providing individual and group counseling for students. Currently, Cami is a therapist in the Student Counseling Center at Mercy College where she treats college students for short term and crisis counseling. Cami has training in DBT Steps-A, which is the school based version of Diactical Behavior Therapy created by Dr. Jim Mazza and Lizz Dexter Mazza. Additionally, Cami has trainings in Affirmative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the LGBTQ Community through Yale, and is in the midst of becoming a Certified DBT Therapist through Dr. Lane Pederson and Evergreen. Cami helps clients explore maladaptive behaviors, identify where the behaviors stem from and how to make changes to develop better coping skills for the present and future. 

Ashley Lewinn, AGNPC-BC, PMHNP-S

Ashley (she/her) is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Adult-Geriatric Primary Care (AGNP-BC) and in May 2024 will complete her training as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She holds an ASN from Beth Israel School of Nursing a BSN from SUNY Downstate and a AGNP MSN from Hunter College.  As a charge nurse, Ashley worked in hospice, adult and pediatric palliative care. As a NP, she works with adolescents, young adults, adults and has a specialty in geriatric patients. Ashley is very DBT aware and is happy to incorporate DBT principles into her medication management practice.  Ashley is Interested in both traditional psychiatric interventions and alternative modalities for mental wellness and offers mental health support with a focus on connection between mind and body. She has a strong interest/focus on comprehensive care and deprescribing medications when appropriate. Ashley specializes in anxiety, depression, geriatrics, medication management with multiple co-occurring health conditions. She has an expanding interest in ADHD and bipolar disorder.
